of a 2nd Lieutenant on his navy blue Federal Army officer's coat, and is believed to have been taken sometime between

Schrader. James was a resident of Princeton in Gibson County, Indiana when he was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant by Indiana Governor Oliver P. Morton. James enlisted August 19, 1862 in what became Company E of the 80th Indiana. He was mustered into the Union Army at the rank of 2nd Lieutenant for a 3 year term of service on September 3, 1862 at Camp Gibson near Princeton, Indiana. He was discharged from the Army "for the good of the service" on August 26, 1864. For more information about this soldier, view his Profile by clicking HERE.
